Ryuko Tomoyose had studied previously with the founders of the other two major Okinawan Karate styles before starting lessons with Kanei Uechi finally. He has sponsored an ongoing set of seminars by international karate masters including Okinawan Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do masters from Okinawa for over thirty years consecutively since 1983. He was one of the very first to publish a book in English about karate and has since continued to publish many books on Uechi-Ryu. He was the first to teach the style professionally resulting in the majority of the original growth in the United States of America. Mattson is a well-known author of martial arts books and one of the first Americans to be awarded a black belt in Uechi-ryū Karate-do. In 2010 Tyler took up yet more training in judo with Richard and John at the Thanet Judo kwai and started MMA with Deno White, also in 2010 Tyler got his 2nd Dan black belt in Aikido and is very keen on competitive Aikido.George E. In 2007 Tyler achieved his first black belt in kung fu under the international black belt organisation. Tyler also trained in Kyokushin karate in Margate with Sensei Yuji Okamoto until the unfortunate death of his father. Tyler has also trained in China with the shoalin monks in Hunan Provence, a year later Tyler started Aikido at the Thanet martial centre in Margate with Sensei Richard Todd, during this time Tyler has had the opportunity to learn from and train with, Sensei Lesley Hepden, Sensei Harvey Goodman, Sensei Bob Jones and Sensei Paul Wildish, he has also had the honour of training with Sensei Senta Yamada (a student of Tomiki) shortly before his death in 2010. Tyler started his martial arts career in Thanet trying out many styles including judo, kickboxing and Shotokan karate & Tae kwon do before settling on Gung Fu in 2003 in Margate, training with Sifu Barry Phelan.
